Valheim takes place in a world where slain Vikings go to prove themselves fit for the halls of Valhalla. Led only by their instincts and occasional hints from a raven, players must prepare to fight sworn enemies to reach the Norse afterlife. The term 'Valheim' denotes a fictional tenth world within Yggdrasil. To summon each boss, players must travel to that boss's altar and give a specific item or set of items as an offering. Bosses drop a collectable trophy when killed; this trophy can be placed at a central altar to grant each player a special power-up.

In Their Own Story

Players create a world procedurally generated from a map seed, where they encounter various biomes including the Mountain. Each biome has unique enemies and bosses that change survival difficulty. To summon Moder, players must locate her specific altar within the Mountain biome. Once summoned, the battle begins. Upon victory, the player collects the trophy and places it on the central altar to receive a power-up that can be used infinitely but requires a brief wait between uses.

Reader's Guide

To defeat Moder, players must first survive in the Mountain biome, which features unique enemies and items. Survival requires gathering natural resources through mining or hunting to build shelters and forge weapons. Players have health and stamina bars; running and attacking drain stamina, while eating food increases maximum values. Combat utilizes one- and two-handed weapons, shields, bows, spears, and magic weapons.
