In Norse mythology, Hel is the daughter of Loki and the ruler of Helheim, the realm of those who died without glory in battle. While Valheim draws from Norse cosmology, Helheim does not exist as a playable area in the game, and there is no corrupted boss encounter involving Hel. The Mistlands is a separate biome, but no such connection to Helheim is established in Valheim's canon.

Hel is the corrupted embodiment of death and decay, serving as the ultimate challenge in Valheim's current narrative arc. Originally a goddess who ruled over non-warriors, she has been twisted by an unknown dark force following Odin's demise. Her powers reflect her domain: she commands the elements of rot and shadow, summoning minions from the earth and unleashing waves of toxic sludge that poison the land.
