To draw Moder from its slumber, a Viking must place a Dragon Egg upon the pre-existing Mountain Altar, often found atop a precarious peak. This act signals to the dragon that a worthy challenger has arrived. Once summoned, Moder does not merely attack on sight but engages in a dance of destruction, breathing frost that deals significant damage but does not instantly freeze a warrior solid regardless of their gear.

In Their Own Story

The wind howled like a dying beast as I dragged the heavy dragon egg up the final ridge. My breath plumed in white clouds, instantly freezing on my eyelashes. Below, the world was a blur of grey snow and jagged rock, but here, at the altar, the air felt thin and electric. I placed the egg upon the stone circle, pouring the glowing blue eitr into the cracks. The ground trembled, not with an earthquake, but with a deep, resonant thrum that vibrated through my boots. From the clouds above, two burning eyes opened, followed by a massive, serpentine head wreathed in frost. Moder had awakened.

Reader's Guide

The journey to summon Moder begins long before the ritual itself. The player must first traverse the dangerous Mountain biome, gathering iron and crafting cold resistance mead to survive the freezing temperatures. Once equipped with a bow and sufficient arrows, the hero seeks out a high peak or constructs an altar using specific materials found in the region. The actual summoning requires placing a Dragon Egg on the altar and pouring Eitr into it. This triggers Moder's appearance, initiating a boss fight that takes place entirely in the air or on narrow ledges. The serpent is immune to most physical damage unless its head is targeted with arrows from a distance, forcing the player to dodge massive frost breath attacks while maintaining mobility. Upon defeat, Moder drops a trophy and essence needed for the next stage of the journey. This victory unlocks access to higher elevations and provides the materials necessary to craft the Frost Resistance upgrade, allowing the Viking to explore even deeper into the frozen wastes without fear.
